Congratulations!<\/p><p>The process leading up to that day involves some bureaucracy and typically takes between\u00a0<strong>1.5 to 3 months<\/strong>. The timeline depends on the meeting schedules of\u00a0<strong>CAPDIB, CAD-TIC,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>EID<\/strong>, which convene once a month (except during summer). You can check the meeting dates on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.etsit.upm.es\/estudios\/doctorado\/comite-area-doctoral-tic-comision-doctorado-eid-upm.html\" rel=\"nofollow\">ETSIT website<\/a>.<\/p><p>The processes are carried out partly through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.upm.es\/thesis\/\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong>Thesis<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0and partly via digital documents sent by email. There are three main steps:<\/p><ol><li><strong>Preliminary Evaluation<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Deposit Request<\/strong><\/li><li><strong>Defense<\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5b08eab elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5b08eab\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<blockquote><p><strong>Important:<\/strong>\u00a0The documents provided are tailored to our Doctoral Program. This is mandatory for residents in Spain and for foreign residents who have an electronic signature.<\/p><p>In the case that a resident abroad does not have an electronic signature, the electronic signature system valid in his\/her country will be accepted as long as it is an advanced electronic signature system\u00a0<strong>recognized by the European Union<\/strong>. Many countries have electronic signature systems valid for official documents. If not, delete the\u00a0<code>2_confidencialidad<\/code>\u00a0folder.<\/li><li><strong>Attach the draft of your thesis<\/strong>. It has to be the same version you will send to the expert committee.<\/li><li>If applying for a\u00a0<strong>Doctorado Industrial mention<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>attach a final report<\/strong>\u00a0signed by the candidate, the company representative, and the director(s).\u00a0<em>(No template available.)<\/em>\u00a0If not, delete the\u00a0<code>3_justificacion_doctorado_industrial<\/code>\u00a0folder.<\/li><li><strong>If applying for an international mention<\/strong>, complete and submit\u00a0<strong><code>Formulario_07_informe_idoneidad_evaluador_internacional.docx<\/code><\/strong>.\u00a0<strong>One document per international reviewer<\/strong>. If not, delete the\u00a0<code>Formulario_07<\/code>\u00a0folder from the\u00a0<code>1_formularios_evaluacion_previa<\/code>\u00a0folder.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c7fd34d elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c7fd34d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Although in theory CAPDs select the external reviewers and tribunal, in practice this does not occurr. You and your supervisors know the experts in your field best, especially given the diversity within our Doctoral Program.\u00a0<strong>Doctoral candidates and their supervisors are responsible for identifying and contacting suitable experts and tribunal members<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ce74dd8 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ce74dd8\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>To streamline the process and avoid deadline issues, during\u00a0<strong>Preliminary Evaluation<\/strong>\u00a0please also provide, in advance, the information required for\u00a0<strong>Step 2: Deposit Request<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e42e851 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e42e851\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Note:<\/strong>\u00a0If this information is not submitted, the Preliminary Evaluation may succeed, but\u00a0<strong>the Deposit Request might be delayed<\/strong>\u00a0by at least one month, potentially compromising deposit deadlines. Incorrect documentation after the Deposit Request will require the candidate to wait until the next CAPD meeting (approximately once a month). Correct documentation does NOT expedite the process -as the Thesis platform and EID determine the timelines- but it does prevent delays if incorrect.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-71716b2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"71716b2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>Therefore, during\u00a0<strong>Preliminary Evaluation<\/strong>, you must also:<\/p><ol start=\"8\"><li>Complete and sign:\u00a0<strong><code>Formulario_06_propuesta_panel_evaluadores_externos.docx<\/code><\/strong>.<\/li><li>Complete\u00a0<strong>without signing!<\/strong>:\u00a0<strong><code>Formulario_09_propuesta_tribunal_tesis.docx<\/code><\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e019293 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e019293\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u26a0\ufe0f\u00a0In order to facilitate the process in the following steps for both you and your supervisors, it is HIGHLY recommended that the president and secretary of the committee be UPM professors. Although this is not required by the regulations (it is even possible that there will be no one from the UPM on the committee), if this were the case, everything would be much easier for you.<\/p><p>The bureaucracy is very high and complicated for the secretary of the committee. If they or the president are not familiar with the UPM procedures, they will ask you and\/or your supervisors, and you will end up having to deal with the Rectorate for financial matters and justifications of the defense procedure.<\/p><p>Therefore, if you only have one member from the UPM, it is advisable to propose them as secretary to take care of the bureaucratic procedures, which are neither few nor simple. If the expert committee and tribunal are well selected, these documents can be prepared in parallel.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-234f562 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"234f562\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u26a0\ufe0f\u00a0The candidate is actually making a deposit REQUEST.\u00a0<strong>When the candidate and their supervisors submit the DEPOSIT REQUEST in Thesis, the candidate&#8217;s deadline stops running. The date indicated in Thesis<\/strong>\u00a0is actually the deadline to request the deposit.
